is past week we were honored to have our first webinar with the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) and Megan Chabalowski. After my first entry into USIP for the annual PeaceCon with the Alliance for Peacebuilding, it has been one of my dreams to connect our community of music educators with excellent resources on peace.
As we closed our webinar, Megan Chabalowski shared a list of resources that would be helpful for peace-passionate music educators. Many of these resources are being provided for free this summer due to COVID-19. Below is a list of these resources:
Peacebuilding Toolkit for Educators, and other resources for schools
Juanes: Building Peace Through Music (video and lesson)
Healing Afghanistan Through Art (recorded event) and Johnny Walsh, USIP senior expert on Afghanistan and accomplished musician who joined with Afghan-American virtuoso Qais Essar to compose an opera entitled Tear a Root From the Earth, which uses Afghan and American folk music to chronicle the two countries’ history together
USIP’s Global Campus courses, including Media and Arts for Peace (full course and micro-course)
USIP’s Peace Day Challenge to mark Sept. 21’s International Day of Peace
Not a USIP resource, but an excellent resource for Early Childhood Educators is the organization Kids for Peace.
Here is a video that gives you a tour of the United States Institute of Peace.
